Toy block

Cannula

A small tube with prongs that delivers oxygen into the babys nose

Cardiologist

A medical doctor who diagnoses and treats problems with the heart

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

A method of reviving a baby whose breathing and/or heart rate has stopped or slowed abnormally

Cardiorespiratory monitor

Equipment used to measure a babys heart and breathing rate

Central nervous system (CNS)

The brain and spinal cord

Cerebral palsy

A condition in which posture or movement is abnormal because of damage to or a malformation in the brain

Chest physiotherapy (CPT)

A technique of vibrating a childs chest, loosening secretions in the lungs to improve breathing

Chronic

A prolonged illness

Congenital

A problem existing before or at birth

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)

Air or supplemental oxygen mechanically pushed into a babys lungs to keep the air sacs open after each breath

Corrected age (adjusted age)

The age your baby would be if born on his or her due date
